Ashtanga Yoga is an ordered system of postures connected to each other with movement and breath. The foundations of the practice are the Ujjayi Breath (Pranayama), the Bhandas (specific muscular engagement/contraction) and the Drishti (a steady gaze). All 3 foundations result in a focused inward concentration as you move through your practice, resulting not only in a stronger, more stable, flexible & healed body, but also a calmer and more present mind.
Through repetition and increased familiarity with the sequence, the Ashtanga Practice transforms into a moving meditation.
This practice is designed to build and progress as you are ready. Traditionally you would work with a teacher who would guide you to move on to the next posture when your body and mind are ready for it. As we are not working together in person please be your own teacher. If anything causes pain or discomfort pull back, modify, or simply leave the posture out. If you are new to this practice start slowly (intro to ashtanga or 60min ashtanga) and over time you will observe your progress. Let the breath be your priority here.
